ART EXHIBITION 28-30 November 2008
ART EXHIBITION AND SALE
Mayor of Ipswich, Councillor David Hale opened the Art Exhibition at the 13th Ipswich Sea Scout Headquarters on Friday 28th November. Many past memebers of the Group attended and shared memories of their times at the 13th at the prieview evening on Friday.
Over 40 local artists exhibited 280 paintings using a variety of media and techniques. Some of the names will be familiar to anyone who enjoys the local art scene such as Reg Siger, Greta Hansan, Ted Binkley and many more. Approximately 25% of the pictures displayed were sold.
Although the current building, built in 1957, has served the group well over the years it is in need of modernisation. Our plan includes providing disabled access and toilet facilities, refurbishing the meeting room into a new kitchen that will meet all today’s current requirements and specifications and providing a new meeting room as an extension to the present building. It is estimated that this will cost in the region of £65,000.

Afloat
The weather has been mixed this summer for our time afloat.
The Scouts and Explorers have been very busy afloat most meetings and the Weekend Camp at Waldringfield enjoyed very good weather and avoiding the mostly wet weather.
The canoeing has broken into 2 groups, one basic skills and the other more advanced up to BCU2 standard. At the end of the evening several usually want to practice their capsize skills just to finish their evening afloat.
There has been good use of the Laser Picos.
The use of the Dory as a support boat has again been a big hit this Summer with most Scouts and Explorers. Our new Scout Leader is a qualified RYA Powerboat Instructor which has made instruction more enjoyable for the Scouts.
The Cub pack enjoyed a taster session on the River Stour with the use of the canoes.
During the year 2 Leaders gained their Level 2 Powerboat qualification, one gaining the British Canoe Union 3 star award, 2 gaining the British Canoe Union Coach Award and 3 Explorers gaining their BCU 2 star award.
